For Pet Owners

Calling all pet owners! On Saturday, April 26, the Vernon Hills Police Department, partnered with The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center’s Animal Care and Control Program are offering a low cost microchip and vaccination clinic. The clinic recommends that your furry friend be at least four months old to participate. This event is cash only, so come prepared! According to the program, prices for vaccinations and microchip services are as follows:

For Pets who are Spayed/Neutered:

One-year rabies vaccination and Lake County tag: $20.00
One-year rabies vaccination, tag and distemper: $25.00
Distemper complex only: $10.00
Microchip: $15.00

For Pets who are not Spayed/Neutered:

One-year rabies vaccination and Lake County tag: $60.00
One-year rabies vaccination, tag and distemper: $65.00
Distemper complex only: $10.00
Microchip: $15.00

For Families

Gather the whole family together for the Vernon Hills Park District’s Kite Fly event on April 26. This free event starts at 11 a.m. at Century Park in Vernon Hills. It’s a great way to get out of your Poets Corner home and enjoy some fresh air with other families! If you don’t have a kite, don’t worry! You can buy one for $6 from the Park District. For Gardeners

Get your Poets Corner home ready for spring by doing some outdoor planting. The Lake County Forest Preserves are holding their annual Native Plant Sale on Mother’s Day Weekend, May 10 and 11. On May 10 the sale will be going on from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and on May 11 the sale is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The Native Plant Sale will include plants, shrubs and trees for your Poets Corner backyard. According to The Lake County Forest Preserves, native plants are less expensive, easy to maintain and will thrive in an Illinois garden. Prices are as follows:
