Home Maintenance Tips

1

The day is finally here–your ¬†new Jacobs Company home is all yours! The papers are signed, all of your custom touches are in place and the keys are in your hands. Now that your home is yours for keeps, there is a lot of maintenance required to keep your new Jacobs home up to date and looking like new long after you’ve moved in. Take a look at some of the ways to keep your custom home in Chicago up to date and in tip-top condition.

Exterior Home Maintenance

The outside of your home is just as important as the inside. Keeping your house in good shape will increase the curb appeal of your home and add value in case you decide to sell in the future. Not to mention, your neighbors will envy the upkeep of your landscaping and exteriors! To keep the outside of your home looking fresh and new all year round, make sure to check frequently on the following:

  • Exterior Paint-keep your paint looking fresh by updating any areas with cracks or chips. As for dirt and weathered areas, a power wash every year will keep your home looking great.
  • Gutters-keeping these consistently clean and free from leaves and other dirt will keep your roof and siding from getting damaged. Take care of these before the rainy season.
  • Landscaping-keeping your landscaping neat and tidy at your custom home will make your home look well kept (and your neighbors jealous!)

Interior Home Maintenance

When you’ve put in all of the work to maintain your home’s exterior, you’ll want to put equally as much effort into the inside of your home. This is where you will spend many days relaxing with your family and building memories, so it’s in your best interest to keep your home looking great from the inside out. Take a look at some quick recommendations for keeping your interiors safe and comfortable for many years to come.

  • Kitchen-maintain the air conditioning filters in your house and change them when necessary. This often is looked over and can cause your central air to break. Also, make sure to ¬†clean the vents in your overhead hood near the stove. The vent can be put in the dishwasher and could prevent a fire (grease buildup can cause a home fire, so be careful!).
  • Clean regularly. Giving your home a daily dose of TLC will keep it looking better over time. This could mean a quick vacuum throughout the house, wiping down your granite counter tops or dusting behind your television. This will prevent bacteria from building, critters from showing up in your home and indoor allergies from getting out of control!
  • Keep the small stuff up to snuff– whether it means washing your pillows, fixing a slow-draining sink or steam-clean your area rugs, there are many small ways to make sure your Jacobs Company home stays in good condition from year to year.
