Community High School District 128

Community High School District 128 includes Vernon Hills High School and Libertyville High School. Vernon Hills High School is an academically acclaimed blue ribbon of excellence school ranked 14th best high school state-wide by Newsweek in 2009. This school consists of 111 teachers, and 97 of them hold a master’s degree or beyond.

Westfield Hawthorn Mall

In need of some retail therapy? Westfield Hawthorn Mall offers a diverse number of stores from high to low end retailers for the family. With large department stores like Carson Pirie Scott, JCPenny, Macy’s and Sears, the possibility of finding what you need seems endless. There are over 140 stores inside and a large food court for your local one-stop retail location. There is also a movie theater coming soon near Maggiano’s. You can always find a good deal at Hawthorn Mall, just check their website for the sales going on in stores!

Park Districts

Vernon Hills is home to over 25 parks in its district. There are children and adult programs all year around and many opportunities to stay in shape, be part of the community, and participate all year around. The Vernon Hills Park District is holds home to a family aquatic center that has children and adult lessons, as well as open swim hours, and a fitness center that welcomes all types of fitness classes, personal training, and a child care center. If you are trying to find a fitness center for you, the Lakeview Fitness Center offers a one week free-trial membership. There is also Peterson Park District, a 16.25 acre park just steps away from Poet’s Corner.

Weekend Getaway Trips

One of the best things about Vernon Hills is its proximity for a day trip or weekend getaway to the busy city of Milwaukee or a peaceful time at Lake Geneva. Both are about an hour drive away and have great vacation spots. Whether it’s a special evening out or a family-fun weekend for the kids, there is something to do for every age group. In Milwaukee, become part of the live theater, visit local breweries, go to the zoo, scope out a festival, or walk along the scenic Historic Third Ward. Lake Geneva offers leisure time spent by the lake, beautiful nature paths, camping along beaches, and even horseback riding with guided tours.
