Things to do in October

Some amazing local events are in the Vernon Hills area that you really must attend, from chocolate day to cooking classes. We hope we’ve inspired you.  

October 12-Brushwork Farm Art Exhibit- Brushwood Center 21850 Riverwoods Road RiverwoodsIL 60015

This exhibit features Edward L. Ryerson’s and his grandson, Edward Ranney’s photographs. The theme is the two artists depiction of the farm and there family. This exhibit is open now and offers free admission till the 30th. What is striking about the exhibit is the time differences from Grandfather to Grandson using different technologies at the same location, an interesting transition.

October 16-EVOO and Balsamic Cooking Class- The Olive Tap, 240 Robert Parker Coffin Rd, Long Grove, IL, 60047

Discover the healthy and delicious cooking that you can do with extra virgin olive oil, this is a very interesting location with a lot of healthy oils available. October 18-Cemetery Tour-Great Lakes Naval Museum, 610 Farragut Avenue, Building 42,Great LakesIL 60088

The Great Lakes Naval Museum will be conducting a free tour of the Naval Station Great Lakes Cemetery beginning at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2014. Included in this tour will be a visit to the grave site of Joseph Wallace Gregg, the first recruit to graduate from Naval Station Great Lakes in 1911. This is free to the public, but registration is required please call (847) 688-3154.

October 22-National Chocolate Day-Vernon Area Public Library, 300 Olde Half Day Road, LincolnshireIL 60069

This one is for your teens (the event not the day) grades 6th through 12th. Participating teens will be learning how to make chocolate treats, and will get some to take home to you. This event starts at 6:30 pm and is free to attend, registration is required. To register call (224)-543-1486 or visit here to fill out a form online.
